Dr. Maged Elaasar is a senior software architect and computer scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he leads R&D projects in the area of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Prior to that, Maged has worked at several leading companies around the world, most notably IBM, where he led R&D projects in the area of Model Driven Engineering (MDE). In addition, Maged regularly consults international organizations, like CEA (France), on software technology. He is also a fellow of several software research laboratories like SnT (Luxembourg), Simula (Norway), SQUALL (Canada) and MOPEC (Egypt). He also frequently teaches corporate and academic courses and delivers invited talks at renowned venues around the world.
Furthermore, Maged is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario, Canada. He has earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2012) and his M.Sc. in Computer Science (2003) from Carleton University, and his B.Sc. in Computer Science (1996) from the American University in Cairo (AUC). Moreover, Maged has published 12 U.S. patents and over 25 peer reviewed articles in top tier software and systems conferences and journals. He has technically led known software products (Rational Software Architect, Corel Draw), has been an active contributor to open-source software projects (GMF, Papyrus) at Eclipse, and has co-chaired software open-standards (UML, DD) at the Object Management Group (OMG).
