Dr. Maged Elaasar is a senior software architect and computer scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a division of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He is currently leading the Integrated Model Centric Engineering (IMCE) program, an R&D organization that is developing software technology in the area of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and infusing it in JPL’s flight projects.
Prior to that, Maged had a long tenure at IBM, where he had led application development in the area of Model Driven Software Engineering (MDSE), most notable the Rational Software Architect family of modelling tools. Furthermore, he has been a contributor to related open source projects at Eclipse, like GMF and Papyrus, and open industry standards at OMG, like UML (co-chair) and SysML. He also regularly consults, teaches, lectures and provides training in this area around the world.
Furthermore, Maged has earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2012) and his M.Sc. in Computer Science (2003) from Carleton University, and his B.Sc. in Computer Science (1996) from the American University in Cairo (AUC). He is an adjunct research professor at Carleton University and a research fellow of the SnT Centre at the University of Luxembourg. Maged also collaborates closely with several R&D labs around the world including Simula in Norway, CEA LIST in France, and MOPEC in Egypt.
